PRODUCTION UNDERWAY IN RUSSIA ON NEW FEATURE FILM, MOSOLOV'S SUITCASE

Excited to announce our new feature about forgotten genius / bad-boy dandy of the Soviet avant-garde, Alexander Mosolov. Principal photography get underway in March in Russia,  with the fantastic Kirill Emelyanov (2015 César nominee for Eastern Boys) in the lead role.

An early peek at my new film and our March shoot in a very snowy Moscow. #shotonfilm #comingsoon

ABSENT RELEASED IN U.S./U.K., FEATURED IN TABLET MAGAZINE

Over four years ago, I bribed my way, with a small crew, across the Moldovan border to make this very special little film. Proud to share this Tablet Magazine piece reviewing our Amazon release in the U.S. and the U.K. For all who have asked over the past year, Absent is now available to rent and own. Spread the word.

"NO PLACE OF EXILE" PREMIERES ON ARTE FEBRUARY 4TH

Pleased to announce that my new film, No Place of Exile, will have its ARTE premiere on Sunday, February 4th, at 11:05pm.

Producer Álvaro Fernández, DoP Michael Pessah, pianist Markus Pawlik, editor Marc Cohen, and I spent 18 months chasing the very complicated life of Artur Schnabel (musician, modernist, refugee) through some five different countries and half a dozen different narrative, documentary, and concert shoots. Mostly, we're grateful to ARTE and RBB for commissioning and seeing through what is essentially a multi-format experimental film about a multi-faceted musical experimenter. As Leon Fleisher so aptly observes in the film: "music [is about] the cosmic."

A BUSY END TO 2017 + NEW PROJECTS FOR 2018

What a busy end to 2017 it was.

Thank you to everybody who made it out to an unforgettable first screening of No Place of Exile at the Waldhaus Sils in the Swiss Engadin and to a memorable screening of Absent in Zürich, co-presented by Likrat Moldova and the Living Stones Foundation.

The year ended (and 2018 began) in Jerusalem, with ten days of script workshops and meetings for a new film: the narrative feature Goldberg Variations, a collaboration with writer Golan Friedman. We are grateful to the Saidoff Foresight Foundation for supporting development on the project.

UPDATED FILM & TV REEL

Newly updated film & TV reel: an excuse to reflect on so many thrilling collaborations with so many wonderful people in so many fascinating places.

SPECIAL PREVIEW SCREENING OF "NO PLACE OF EXILE" AT WALDHAUS SILS

Occasionally a physical location is so crucial, so impressive and specific and haunted, that it becomes a character in the film. That was the case with the Waldhaus Sils, and I'm excited to announce that, prior to its television premiere on Arte/RBB, No Place of Exile will be screened in the Swiss Engadin where we filmed it. If you're in the area in early September, I hope you'll join us for this special event.

"NO PLACE OF EXILE" TRAILER RELEASED; "DELPHINIUM" AT THE TATE BRITAIN

Coming soon to RBB / Arte in Germany and France; worldwide TV outlets TBA soon. Thrilled to share the trailer.

It was an honor to have my 2009 film about Derek Jarman, Delphinium, presented at the Tate Britain in London on June 24th, in collaboration with the BFI. Thanks to curator Simon McCallum for introducing the program.
