DELPHINIUM ACQUIRED BY THE BFI

My 2009 film Delphinium: A Childhood Portrait of Derek Jarman has been acquired by the British Film Institute for preservation in the National Film Archive. Look for the film in the mediatheque at the BFI Southbank in London in the New Year. Needless to say, we're honoured.

DELPHINIUM WINS EASTMAN KODAK GRAND PRIZE FOR BEST SHORT FILM

Delphinium: A Childhood Portrait of Derek Jarman has been awarded the Eastman Kodak Grand Prize for Best Short Film at the 2010 United States Super8 and DV Film Festival. The fest screens challenging, innovative, and personal works from around the world that incorporate small formats and has previously showcased films by Jonathan Caouette and Derek Jarman.

Delphinium also recently screened and was installed at the Gales Gardens Gallery in London as part of JUBILANT, an exhibition in honour of Derek Jarman on the sixteenth anniversary of his death.

Both are high-concept screenings utilizing the groundbreaking new Microvision tapeless projector. In three galleries over two afternoons, films will be projected onto ten-foot ice sculptures, giant ceiling installations, and inanimate objects -- even the back of a nude model. Pleased to have been curated by avant garde taste-maker Shade Rupe for such a unique program that also includes new works by Floria Sigismondi, Ken Russell, Sean Pecknold, Helene Cattet, Bruno Forzani, Rodrigo Gudino, and Austin Young. "PORTLAND" MOVING FORWARD DESPITE SETBACK; PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN 2009

A quick update: despite the tragic loss of co-star David Carradine, PORTLAND is moving forward in 2009/2010. The team, led by producer Edward Singletary, executive producers Elizabeth Levine and Adrian Salpeter, and consulting producer Robert Zimmer, Jr., is continuing on, resolutely, to principal photography.

A number of major news organizations have picked up this story and covered our film these past few days, including The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Reuters, Yahoo, Entertainment Tonight, E Online, ABC Australia, AMC, The Guardian, IMDB, Box Office, CBC, and The Vancouver Sun.

Many thanks to the independent film community in Los Angeles, Canada, and around the world for the kind wishes and support this past week as we charge ahead in spite of this major obstacle.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: INDEPENDENT FILM “PORTLAND” MOURNS LOSS OF DAVID CARRADINE

Los Angeles, CA, June 4, 2009 - The cast, crew, and producing team behind the feature film PORTLAND are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic passing of co-star David Carradine on the eve of principal photography.

PORTLAND was set to be David's next film and was his only project currently in pre-production. Helmed by Matthew Mishory, the picture stars Erin Daniels, Jonathan Caouette, Steven Martini, Renee Victor, and Alex Schemmer. Carradine was set to play a pivotal role in the film, and this has been a great loss for the entire PORTLAND family. “An actor of David Carradines stature behind our film meant the world to us,” said executive producers Adrian Salpeter and Elizabeth Levine of Random Bench Productions.“ Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

The team is committed to this film and are considering other actors to replace the irreplaceable David Carradine. The producers and all involved are moving forward with the production in his memory.

"PORTLAND is a truly remarkable and truly original vision four years in the making," explains producer Edward Singletary, Jr., "Our close-knit team is like a family, and while today we mourn the loss of co-our star David Carradine, our cinematic family is resolute in moving forward and presenting this special film to audiences."

Mr. Carradine was truly a living legend of stage and screen, having worked with Martin Scorsese, Hal Ashby, Ingmar Bergman, and Quentin Tarantino, among many others, in a career that spanned nearly five decades.

Writer/director Matthew Mishory adds, “every filmmaker aspires to work with an iconic actor like David Carradine, he was one of a kind.”
